School Around the Corner:
B’iontach ar fad an deis a bhí ag Grúpa Ceoil na Gaelscoile le déanaí agus a turas go Baile Átha Cliath chun píosa staire eile a dhéanamh don Ghaelscoil! It was with great excitement that the children in the Grúpa Ceoil, with staff and parents, set off to Dublin last week to be recorded for RTE’s ‘School Around the Corner, presented by Ray Darcy. Having been seen performing at the Walton’s ‘Music for Schools’ National Concert, the school was invited to be recorded for the upcoming series, to be screened in the autumn. The school’s Grúpa Ceoil is made up of a large group of senior pupils from the Banna Ceoil, which comprises of all children from Rang a 2 to Rang a 6. The programme’s musical director, David Hayes, set the scene when he visited the school twice in the run up to the trip to Dublin, before he headed back to the Bord Gáis Grand Canal Theatre to play at ‘The Lion King’. The pupils played, sang and danced to a very appreciative audience, performing Snow Patrol’s ‘Run’, as Gaeilge, Pachobel’s Canon, and the ‘Titanic’ Polka! With hair and make-up done by the professionals in studio, and the production team hard at work, as well as Ray Darcy determined to get his pronunciation of ‘Aonach Urmhumhan’ just right, this was an experience that will be treasured by all those who travelled for many a year to come. We look forward to watching the programme in the autumn, with a sense of pride in a job well done! Comhghairdeachas do gach duine, agus mo bhuíochas do Mhúinteoir Orla a chabhraigh liom go mór leis an tionscnamh.
